Greetings I have just started learning to use DVD-A Audio. Previously I was using DVD Audio Creator but it only accepted 16-bit 2.0 audio files, although it did preserve the tags embedded in WMA input files. This leads me to a number of questions about your software: - Apart from WAV files, are there any other uncompressed formats that DVD-A Audio will accept? FLAC files, for example, can be created with zero compression but still with tags embedded. - Does DVD-A audio support multi-channel audio formats, such as 4.0, 5.0 or 5.1? - Is there a way of ensuring that file tags can be imported into and displayed in a DVD-Audio compilation? With thanks for your assistance. Brian Knight Evandale (Adelaide) 5069 South Australia |

I hate to be pest but..Is there a limit to the size or length of a single MLP 24/94 track that can be used? I keep crashing dvda-author with long tracks. There is one track that is 23:36. I have tried every trick to use it, but it crashes dvda-author every time. I was able to get a replacement of the same track from multiple sources, but it still crashes. If I split that track into 2 parts before converting to MLP, dvda processing works and does not crash dvda-author. It seems like the size/length of the track is the issue. |

I should have included that info. It is Windows dvda-author-package-21-01-1. These files started out as FLAC. I converted to PCM WAV using a program called "EZ CD Audio Converter" to convert from FLAC to WAV. It could be that tool is the problem. I had the same results with other FLAC files. This tool was fixed in recent Linux versions, although it may not have been in the Windows packages. One thing to try would be to flac your audio, then to unflac it and retry processing the same command line with the unflac'ed files. This has been tested to work quite a few times. I was recently attempting to use dvda-author command line to create DVDA discs from FLAC, WAV. and MLP files. I am noticing small gaps between tracks when the audio runs together. In the help files I see a -s option to merge tracks and -j option to perform additional processing for gapless playback. Try as I might, I can't get either of those to work. The help file reads like they should be substitutes for -g. I have also tried various combinations with -g. Are these valid commands and is there an example of how to use them? I searched the archives of this list and also see that gapless audio has been discussed many times. I did not see any easy answers unless I missed it. ____________________________________________ Trott Communications Group, Inc. Engineering the Wireless Spectrum https://www.trottgroup.com 1303 W. Yes I think so. I'm still looking for a Mac laptop to build it but there should be few porting issues. The upgrade should bring the core application close to commercial-level software, or hopefully so. Long-time needed! very good news > > Will it build on OS X? > > Scott > > |

Hi there, active development work has been going on since June on the core dvda-author application using the GIT repository (https://git.code.sf.net/p/dvd-audio/dev) A major update should be released in October with many bugfixes and new features, among which: - full multichannel support (prior releases have been tested unsatisfactory or broken) ; - DVD-A to WAV extraction (new algorithm) ; - gap issue fixes. A new GUI should follow before end of year. To *nix-distribution maintainers (Gentoo, FreeBSD, among others): please send me a private email so that I can adjust the configure script to distribution requirements. Fabrice Nicol |

Hello, OS X user here. I've been using v09.05 because it's the last version I could get to compile on OS X that made me readable discs. I downloaded the latest version today, but can't get it to build. Anyone have any tips, or a link to a compiled version for Mac OS X? Thanks, Scott |

Hi, I am trying to setup a port for FreeBSD, as the source code used there (09.05) has vanished, so now I try 13.11.000. But I have some problems: Why do I now have to download linux and windows binaries in the package? Isn't it possible to get the source alone? And it would probably be nice if the source package had a version number and stay the same. That way you know what you're downloading. I don't understand the bundling od 3rd party libs source. Normally you have these on the system anyway, why not use the them? When I configure without args, do I get a binary without sox, flac etc. support? Although I have all of them installed? Do you have advice how I would configure and build when I want to use my system libraries? As this all is probably too much work for me, do you probably still have the 09.05 version source code and make it available again? thanks, m. |

Hello everyone - I see on the Web page a notice that version 13.11 is released. However, I cannot find the source code for it. The source code file I found is still version 13.06 from back in January. Does anyone have a URL directly to the correct source code tarball? Thanks - Bill Gee |

After experimenting with WAV files that were rendered by different kinds of software, I found that dvda-author only fails on my system some of the time. 24/44.1 WAV files rendered by Reaper 4.402 on Windows Vista never work in dvda-author, not even if the "-f" flag is included in the command line. 16/44.1 WAV files rendered by Reaper 4.402 on Windows Vista work correctly if the "-f" flag is included in the command line. 24/44.1 WAV files captured by Creative Media Source Player 5 work correctly with dvda-author. Can anyone recommend a DAW for Windows or Ubuntu that will render 24/44.1 WAV files that work with dvda-author? |

My computer is a dual boot Windows Vista/Ubuntu 12 system. I am having the same problem with dvda-author on both platforms. I am running version 12.06 on Windows and version 10.06.400 on Ubuntu. When I enter the command “dvda-author -o output_path -i input_path” AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories are created. The AUDIO_TS directory has a full file structure, but there is no audio data in the AOB file. Total size of the AUDIO_TS directory is 150 KB. |

Hi Michael: 1. Your log points to your platform not having flac dev libraries on board. I cannot go further in the issue analysis without proper indications as to: your platform, OS version, dvda-author (-gui) binary version, type of install process (installer versus autotools config) and existence of libflac libraries on your system. Please send me the requested data by PM ; 2. General info: there's been some work going on. A revised GUI is undergoing tests on Windows and Linux and will be released in September. A revised core application should follow before end of year. If I add the debug switch, I get [INF] Parsing user command line [INF] Running: dvda-author -g anathema.flac -d [INF] First scan of track list for memory allocation... [MSG] g-type audio group : 0 Allocating: 1 track(s) (strings=0.1 kB) [INF] Assigning command-line filenames... [PAR] Debugging-level verbosity [PAR] Temporary directory J:\Share\dvda-author\temp has been removed and recreated. Even letting the engine find the file doesn't work! It knows the file it wants is anathema.flac, but then it can't open it. I've even rebooted my machine, renamed the file, moved the file, and still the same issue. J:\Share>dvda-author -g *.flac -d [INF] Parsing user command line [INF] Running: dvda-author -g anathema.flac -d [INF] First scan of track list for memory allocation... [PAR] Debugging-level verbosity [PAR] Temporary directory J:\Share\dvda-author\temp has been removed and recreated. ------------------------------------------------------------ [INF] Opening anathema.flac to get info [ERR] Could not open 'anathema.flac' Eventually, I tried this: dvda-author -g "j:\Share\anathema.flac" -d which got me this: [INF] Parsing user command line [INF] Running: dvda-author -g j:\Share\anathema.flac -d [INF] First scan of track list for memory allocation... Users interested in following up on the current code twists may download current (experimental) code from the git repository as follows: fab@ubuntu:~/test$ git pull git://dvd-audio.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/dvd-audio/dvda-author-dev master For those who have never used git, it is enough to install the app, then do: fab@ubuntu:~$ mkdir test fab@ubuntu:~$ cd test fab@ubuntu:~/test$ git init Initialized empty Git repository in /home/fab/test/.git/ |

With a view to eliminating the residual static issues mentioned by some posts, mainly with flac files it seems, I'd be grateful to users having experienced this issue to send snippets of flac files causing trouble, preferably using some download link. Please mention the platform and dvda-author version used, and if built from source, whether the FLAC library was built from source in the make process. Thanks in advance, Fabrice Nicol |

After quite a long vacation and promises that were not delivered on, active development has started again on dvda-author. Recent versions have seen quite a few new features yet also quite a few bugs and regressions, which I'm currently weeding out. A stabilized, somewhat streamlined version will be released before end of month, without the main two regressions mentioned on this forum: noise with some flac files and titlecount issues. A dev version will also be released in July, aiming at some more convergence with current work in progress by Bahman on his lplex project. I will be grateful to users for tests and bug tracking.
