After getting the game in a good solid state, I temporarily put it on the back burner and have not worked on it in a few months. There were a couple of reasons why I did this:
- There were other projects I wanted to pursue
- I was having problems motivating myself to create content needed for the game
- I never garnered enough support from my immediate social circle to properly test the game
That being said, I have been thinking about reviving the project and picking up where I left off. Addressing some of the issues above:
- I am still working on other projects, but never stopped thinking about Traits and Traitors.
- I want to focus on creating rooms as a creative writing exercise more than anything; I feel like I have been hiding behind humor and goofiness, but I think there is real potential here to feature good fantasy writing and world building, as long as I am confident enough to put the art out there
- I may have found an audience willing to test this through coworkers. Recently a coworker and I have been talking about using multiplayer, low committment, text based games to improve team building and morale for remote workers. It just so happens that is exactly what traits and traitors is. Also, if I execute on point 2 and shore up some production deployment issues and design problems, I'd feel more comfortable showing the game off online or in person.
So, as has been tradition on this devlog, here is the official list of new work I will be executing on:
- Game log / email / game history
- New design to be less niche and more mainstream
- Content creation with inspiration drawn from oldbookillustrations.com
- admin users, content publishing workflow
