    Dear Stelian,

I wanted to back up my linux server using RedHat 7 as
OS. I try to dump but we have to dump the files oe by
oe. Is there any command that in dump or tar that
backs up the whole system(total backup)like in the IBM
AIX using smit. read the man dump and tar page but
    could not find
    will apprciate for your help.

By dumping 'all the files' I suppose you mean all the
    partitions ?

If so, you cannot do it directly with dump, but a simple
shell script will do the job:
    mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind
    for i in /dev/hda1 /dev/hda2 /dev/hda3; do
    dump 0f /dev/nst0 $i
    done
    mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind

Also, a tar of the root node (/) would archive all your
    (mounted) filesystems.

I do not know smit or either AIX.

    Stelian.
