You mean playing with the tape drive firmware (not the hard drive). Another user
reported a problem similar to yours, maybe it's the same cause (the bug is filled 
in the sourceforge bug section).

Anyway, happy to hear it was not a dump problem..

Miscalculation is normal (I mean it's not perfect, it's only an approximation).
But reporting negative time counts or more than 100% it is a bug, which was fixed in
0.4b14.
