Just a few thoughts: - what are you using as dump's command line? - do you have the same problem when dumping into /dev/null or a /tmp file? - the exabyte is this a SCSI tape drive, and do you modprobe the driver before starting to dump (or you have the module inserted automatically when accessing to the tape). - any driver messages in /var/log/messages ? - is this a SMP system? - does a tar into that tape drive works? I made a list of questions on the web page (http://dump.sourceforge.net/REPORTING-BUGS), could you please report the versions of your software as indicated on that page. Maybe that will give me some supplementar clues...
