More and more open source software is available every day that appeals to average desktop users, so the distros incorporate it and then must find a way to clear space for it on the CD's. Part of that involves moving esoteric stuff to separate CD's, including all the development stuff. That may mean splitting packages into subpackages, with the non-essential subpackages moved to later CD's to make it easier to install a basic desktop system. |
