I am a relatively new user of dump. Previously I had been using tar to back up data to tape. I keep a small database where I manually record some basic info about each backup such as a brief description of the content of the archive, file number on tape, tape number, size in MB, and transfer rate. I also note the backup in my paper planner just in case. I am wondering if there would be significant value in recording the number of blocks written to tape as reported by dump? I could see this possibly being of value in the case of a corrupt tape, maybe? Maybe of use to verify the integrity of the archive? Has anyone found this information useful in any regard? |
