Sorry for multiple messages in the thread, but for completeness,  
here's the exact error message:

[root ~]# restore -t -b 64 -f /dev/nst0
restore: Tape blocksize is too large, use '-b 64'

As I noted before, reading that dump with 'dd bs=64k' then piping to  
restore works fine.
