The Digital Intermediate process eliminates current post-production redundancies by creating a single high-resolution master file from which all versions can be made, including all theatrical and High Definition formats. By creating a single master file with resolution higher than the current High Definition broadcast standards, the DI master file enables cinema and television distributors to extract and archive all current and future cinema and television formats including Digital Cinema, Television and High Definition. Red H0t News: H o l l y w o o d I n t e r m e d i a t e a provider of digital intermediate film mastering services, announced today that that its Matchframe Digital Intermediate (MDI) division is completing a digital intermediate for Chad Lowe's directorial debut, "Beautiful Ohio," starring William Hurt and Rita Wilson. H o l l y w o o d I n t e r m e d i a t e, Inc. (H-Y-W-I - News), a provider of digital intermediate film mastering services, announced that High Definition preview masters as part of its normal digital intermediate service offerings and workflow. "Typically, in current post-production workflow, HD dailies masters are edited into high quality preview masters including color timing, dirt removal, opticals and visual effects," said David Waters, H o l l y w o o d I n t e r m e d i a t e president. "Unfortunately, none of these processes translate to the theatrical release of the film as they must all be duplicated or repeated in either a higher resolution digital format, or photo chemical process." H o l l y w o o d I n t e r m e d i a t e gives Motion Picture producers the ability to scan their selected original camera negative at 2k or 4k film resolution, conform a high resolution digital master for theatrical and broadcast release including dirt removal, opticals and visual effects, and output a High Definition preview master to be used for preview screenings and focus groups that can be deployed in any worldwide theater location. "The challenge for completing the final editorial decisions on a motion picture are balanced between the ability to display the highest resolution picture for a test audience, and the costs and time in having to re-master your film based on a test audience response," said Jim Delany, H o l l y w o o d I n t e r m e d i a t e COO. If you want to play the marrket get in on H Y W I ----------------------- The season of goodwill. Tastes like chicken. Shit happens. There is always next year. Wet behind the ears. We hung them out to dry. Shall I compare thee to a summer's day. Stop and smell the roses. Strong as an ox. Speak softly and carry a big stick. Rare as walking on water. Which came first, the chicken or the egg. Through the grapevine. There may be snow on the roof, but there's fire in the belly. You feel like a fish out of water. A snail's pace. Walking on cloud nine. Stuck in a rut. Put off the scent. Plain as water. Shit happens. Wrinkled as a prune. When the cows come home. Up one side and down the other. A rose is a rose is a rose. Which came first, the chicken or the egg. Take time to smell the roses. Shall I compare thee to a summer's day. Wait and see. Rain, rain go away; come again some other day. The scythe ran into a stone. Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow. Wet behind the ears. Sour as a green apple. Shall I compare thee to a summer's day. Putting the cart before the horse. Watered down. Say it with flowers. This is for the birds. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Stop, look and listen. |

Was this dump-file compatibility issue intentional? In general extra care is payed to the dump file format, and changes =20 are introduced only if absolutely necessary to support extra features =20= (like supporting extended attributes for example). However, in your case, I'm not sure the dump file itself has a =20 problem. You could as well have a problem with the restore binary =20 which may be buggy and have a problem with this particular dump. Looking at the changelog I cannot really pinpoint the fix making =20 restore work again for you. Some extra investigation would be needed =20 in order to understand what happens. But since the newer version appears to work just fine I'm not sure =20 it's worth the trouble. Stelian.= |

Hello, Ran into a problem restoring a dump today. The dump was taken from a RHEL v4, Update 3 server (that's dump 0.4b39, libext2fs 1.35). I attempted to restore it using Knoppix 4.0.2 (that's dump 0.4b37, libext2fs 1.38). Here is an example run: root@2[TEST]# /KNOPPIX/sbin/dump -V /KNOPPIX/sbin/dump: invalid option -- V /KNOPPIX/sbin/dump 0.4b37 (using libext2fs 1.38 of 30-Jun-2005) usage: /KNOPPIX/sbin/dump [-level#] [-acmMnqSuv] [-A file] [-B records] [-b blocksize] [-d density] [-D file] [-e inode#,inode#,...] [-E file] [-f file] [-h level] [-I nr errors] [-j zlevel] [-Q file] [-s feet] [-T date] [-y] [-z zlevel] filesystem /KNOPPIX/sbin/dump [-W | -w] root@2[TEST]# /KNOPPIX/sbin/restore -if /mnt/sda2/verne-bad-dump.img . is not on the tape Root directory is not on tape abort? I look at that to see if the backup was sane. I expect to see specific miscompares on files that I know are "live", like log files and mail spools. I also expect to see attribute errors on mount points (because restore can't see the directory behind the mount point). |

I plan to automatically email myself the results of the dump cron job. I would like to simplify the whole thing and create a subject like "Backup success" or "Backup failure." Is it safe for me to assume that "DUMP: DUMP IS DONE" indicates a success, And all failures will give me "DUMP: The ENTIRE dump is aborted." ??? Thanks for your advice. I tend to think this is more a design issue in SELinux itself (like in 'how a SELinux labeled volume must be backuped ?') than a bug in restore. As I said in my previous post, the solution might be to never backup the security related EAs, and just tell the user to relabel the partition after the restore. I guess I'll just wait and see what the SELinux guys think about this. Stelian. --=20 Stelian Pop <st...@po...> |

Maybe dump should just save all EAs *except* the SELinux ones, and let the user relabel the partition after the restore. I'm not sure there is another clean way out of this mess.
