How can I dump several filesystems?

  • Sebastian Taralunga

I use the dump -0 -z5 -f/dev/st0  /dev/sda1 nd it is working fine
But I have several filesystems on my Linux box and I would like to be able to dump all of them on the tape. What command should I use? I thought of using tar to just create a large file, but I am not sure this is the way to go. What is the normal way to store several filesystems on a single tape? What command should it be used to restore?

Concatenation. Use the non-rewinding tape device (nst for non-rewinding SCSI tape) and save each dump file one after another. Use the mt command to seek to each file when restoring, if not restoring sequentially.
