The man page indicates that one can dump part of the filesystem. Here is the output that I get. It seems to want to look for this directory on the root device.

I tried building the latest release and got the same results.

/sbin/dump -L "testdump" -f /dev/nst0 -v /incell/2009
DUMP: Date of this level dump: Wed Nov 16 08:12:05 2011
DUMP: Dumping /dev/sda3 (/ (dir incell/2009)) to /dev/nst0
DUMP: Excluding inode 8 (journal inode) from dump
DUMP: Excluding inode 7 (resize inode) from dump
DUMP: Label: testdump
DUMP: Writing 10 Kilobyte records
DUMP: mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
/dev/sda3: File not found by ext2_lookup while translating incell/2009

and here are the relevant mount points:

df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 57G 21G 33G 39% /
/dev/sda1 99M 23M 72M 24% /boot
/dev/mapper/vg_data2-lv_incell
12T 11T 575G 95% /incell
