Hi I've used this program for the past few months, and I've just discovered that it was the issue behind me needing to restart my computer every morning.
I'd come into the office and my computer would be running in what felt like 30hz or less refresh rate, yet no performance stats were high. Everything was chill. I could close DMT and everything else, no change. Reboot cleared it up. I even purchased an entirely new PC, had the same issues! I just switched away from DMT and I've been up and running for 5 or so days now without a reboot, everything running smooth.
I'm really curious what this problem is, because its weird to see the computer run slow but still have low CPU, memory, GPU activity and such.

When you say "felt like 30hz or less refresh rate", I take it that you mean when scrolling a page?
If so, is this both when scrolling with a mouse and when scrolling just using the keyboard?
Is it the Task Manager that you used to check low CPU/Memory usage, and if so did this also apply to the 'Dual Monitor Tools' task and was there only one instance of it running?
I've not seen any such slowdown myself, but then I don't tend to leave my computer on over night.
Which features were you using? Namely, were you using:
1) Sticky or cursor locked to a screen.
2) Wallpaper changer, and if so how often was the wallpaper being changed and was it from your local disk or coming from the web (flickr/Unsplash/Url).
- I think those are the only features that could run if the computer is left unattended.
I take it that you were running the latest version (2.7)?
Also, is this on Windows 10 and do you let the compter hibernate after a period of inactivity?
If anyone else is reading this who has noticed similar issues, please can you also provide any information that you think may be relevant.
Thanks

My test was always to open up notepad and wiggle it. I was only using the wallpaper changer part of DMT. Early on when I noticed the issue, I tried various things such as closing just about every running app I could find, including DMT. Nothing helped. Resource usage was all low to zero.
I believe I had the changer set to be pretty frequent, maybe every 5 minutes or so. It would do the smooth transition too. Files were on local SSD. I lock the desktop when I'm not around.
Here is a couple videos I captured of before and after a reboot:
If it helps any I switched from an Intel i5 based system to a Ryzen 2600. Pretty big change, but both systems still had the issues. Same monitor and GPU, but the rest all changed. I was assuming it was the GPU, but I caught onto the issue with DMT by forgetting to turn it on for a couple days and noticing I had no slowdown.

I left DMT running for 30 hours changing the wallpaper every minute and there was no noticable slow down at the end of this.
I did notice one oddity, and that was when I right-clicked on the Windows icon on the task bar, the Windows menu was quickly displayed, then cleared and then painted itself again. At first I thought it was my mouse button misbehaving. Will try this again to see if it is re-producable.
This was even when DMT was not running at all.

30 hours makes it a bit noticeable, but coming back after a weekend of no use was quite more noticeable for me. After a 3-day long weekend it was significantly worse (I believe that's what my video is showing).
Maybe it's a combo of your software plus my AMD graphics? Not sure...

I'm using Nvidia + integrated intel graphics, so perhaps that does make a difference.
The problem I'm seeing with clicking on the Windows start button only seems to happen when "Use smooth fade when changing wallpaper" is in use. This feature uses Windows Active Desktop, so am looking at how I can change this usage to see if it can avoid the problem.
