The HP e-speak development kit (this is part of what I do in my *real* 
job) ships with
a Virtual File System. Find out more at http://www.e-speak.net/ -- 
although HP
is very slow in updating the puplic mirror. [VFS is part of the samples 
in the dev
kit, so you need to download it to see. VFS is partly DSFS without the 
anonymity]

Thierry, can you propose some short/long term goals -- maybe you have some
already thought of?

Posix C/C++ sounds fine by me. I am quite Ok with anything,
as long as it runs on my OpenBSD box:-)
