The HP e-speak development kit (this is part of what I do in my *real* 
job) ships with
a Virtual File System. Find out more at http://www.e-speak.net/ -- 
although HP
is very slow in updating the puplic mirror. [VFS is part of the samples 
in the dev
kit, so you need to download it to see. VFS is partly DSFS without the 
anonymity]

Thierry, can you propose some short/long term goals -- maybe you have some
already thought of?

Posix C/C++ sounds fine by me. I am quite Ok with anything,
as long as it runs on my OpenBSD box:-)

Hi Hans and Todd!

I've read the first version of your documents and your class 'dsfs'
Hans. I think it's a great idea. I've also started making a quick survey
and I've found many projects based on the idea of distributed space....
Yet, none but Gnutella clones has really started....

I think we need now major features for our project (to distinguish it
from the others), a plan to resume our short- and long-term targets and
eventually some technical choices (O.S., language) for the prototype.

Concerning the features : I shall annotate your documents Hans ....
Concerning the plan : it's up to you boss :) - it would be cool if we
could start a prototype next week .... For the technical choices : why
not Linux and C++ for the beginning ? (The problem with C is that it is
not easy to do object-oriented programming with it and we'll need to
recode the modules again)

[Dsfs-announce] current status

Hello all,

The latest documents describing the ideas behind DSFS are available
through cvsweb at [1]. I meant to move these docs to the 'Doc Manager'
at [2] but noticed there is no change control available on these 
documents, so I chose to keep them in cvs. Better ideas are welcome.

I realize there is not very much at the moment. The DSFS is very
much just an idea I had, and I am sure it is not a unique idea; for
me it's more of an interesting concept and a first try at creating
an open source project. The current code is just a skeleton for 
discussion, and we should (possibly) write any prototype code in C. 

Let me know what you think.
