The 8 player limit in Dungeon Siege hurts a lot of the social aspects of the game.  Trading, Role-playing, and player interactions are further hampered by a lack of a central "communal" area.  The Marketplace is geared towards filling that gap.

The first iteration of The Marketplace will include:

    1. A large open bazaar with vendors of all levels
    2. A mage tower with all the levels of magic represented.
    3. A large inn/tavern for social interaction
    4. An auction block for selling/trading items in the center of the bazaar.

Subsequent iterations will include (if the map is popular enough):

    1. a  theater with dressing rooms
    2. a jail
    3. a courtroom
    4. an outdoor wedding
    5. a chapel
    6. a castle with a feast
    7. a grand hall with thrones
    8. and a whole lot more...

Eventually, the area may be expanded with either links to other mods/maps, or small areas connected to the sprawling city around the marketplace (think 3.0) for these additions.  The first priority is to establish the community/social aspects of the map.  I am also hoping to include NPC's from the various mods either wandering about the city, or in their own "themed" sections of the city...to help advertise some of the other mods.

I have some "4.0" ideas as well, if the map is popular, and people want them.  A message board to leave notes for people has been suggested...and is a likely addition if we can code it, for instance.

So, that's the general idea.  I have a lot of the basic concepts/maps planned out already (this is a fairly straight-forward sieglet), but I am TOTALLY open to suggestions/additions/concepts from the community.

I'm just trying to get an understanding. Basically youre trying to make a meeting place for people to meet up and exchange everything from party members to gear. At the same time make this like the central meeting place for all quests and what not?

Im curious as to how you will implement a court and jail. Is their going to be rules and laws that can be broken and if so while in jail will there be quests that can only be done in jail? How long and how does one get out or escape? What level are the guards going to be? I think it might work if those questions are thought out. Then that would give way for other realms. Like if the jail in the market place was only like a holding tank for certain levels. Higher levels would be sent to maybe a moon or another dimension only being able to leave by proving their self in a number of quests.

ushi again...Your marketplace should have a website where updated maps or sever ip access info is provided.  This could also provide info for a waiting list to an active server... Members wishing to join the marketplace could post appointment requests and the host could post Marketplace opening/closing times.  See also my other post about map citizenship and property development.  People could also offer to host the Marketplace on a rotating basis.   Allowing everyone a turn at being the host.

I think it is one of the greatest idea's i've heared about dungeon siege so far. though there are some highly complicated things. like how are you going to break the maximum-login code? and if, as Moadeeb says, you can actually go to jail for violating the rules, you must be one hell of a engineer or Dungeonsiege editor. but if you can pass those problems, i think it is gonna be great!

I do assume that it is still in progress?
if it is finished, do let me know!

Not finished, but it is a good idea.  I just replied to your other forum concerning progress.

Unfortunately, there is no one working on any of the projects (that I'm aware of).  Maybe after DS 2.0 things will change.   However, NWN is already easy to build with in comparison.
