Hi,
I am running Dr. Java on Windows 7 and there is no "Debugger" dropdown option in my main menu. I've searched and cannot find what im doing wrong?
Any help would be appreciated! I'm attaching the system properties here:

Hi Tracy,
Do you have the JDK (Java Development Kit) installed? Judging by the information you provided, DrJava didn't find it, and it therefore only offers the built-in Eclipse compiler, and no debugger.
You can get the JDK here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7u9-downloads-1859576.html
If that doesn't help, please let us know.

I am having the same problem - just downloaded JDK 8.0_20 but still no Debugger Menu.Suggestions?
Same here. "Preferences/Debugger" says:
I added the location of the "tools.jar", nothing have changed.
drjava 20140826-1

It seems this is a known bug:
https://sourceforge.net/p/drjava/bugs/955/
a private fix is offered.

I tried to reply by email but my message bounced. I have uploaded the latest build which appears to support the debugger with the Java 8 JDK at www.cs.rice.edu/~javaplt/drjavarice. I rarely use the debugger in DrJava but I was able to load the debugger using the menu and sucessfully set a breakpoint. This build also passes all of the debugger unit tests running on a Java 8 JDK. Prior builds were tested with Java 7 or Java 6 JDKs.

I just confirmed that the debugger loads when running the latest build
using Java 7 and Java 6. I anticipate that Java 6 will become problematic
in the near future. For example, according to documentation embedded in
the new Eclipse batch compiler (Version 4.5.1) in the drjava.jar, it
requires Java 7 or Java 8. I have not tried to use the Eclipse compiler
using java 6; the latest build of DrJava only loads in this compiler if it
fails to find a JDK on the executing machine. I have been using a Java 8
JRE in my tests to make sure that the Eclipse compiler is properly loaded.
