First, I have windows vista. I downloaded JDK 1.60 Update 16. I installed it and then configured it following these directions :http://cs.armstrong.edu/liang/intro6e/supplement/Supplement1bInstallingJDK5_0.pdf. Then i downloaded the windows application version of current stable release. Once i click on it, vista does nothing. If i say open as administrator, it asks to allow then does nothing. I am not sure what to do now and would really appreciate any help. Thank you for your time and effort.

I am not familiar with the instructions at cs.armstrong.edu. It is not a readable page when I try to browse it.

If you have installed a Java 6 JDK on Vista, you should be able to execute either the .exe version or the .jar version of DrJava without any additional configuration. You want to undo whatever the page at cs.armstrong.edu told you to do.

I am not a fan of Vista. Nearly all of our Windows experience has been on machines running XP. Nevertheless, I have Vista installed as a dual boot option on this machine (my laptop). I am going to boot Vista and make sure that the latest stable runs in Vista on my machine without problems.

I just logged into Vista on my laptop. JDK 6 Update 16 had already been downloaded onto this machine. But the latest stable release of DrJava had not. So I downloaded both the .exe and .jar versions. Both ran without any problems but the .exe version pops up a security warning window, requiring the activation of a button before DrJava is allowed to start. In my limited experience with Vista, these windows pop up a lot (so often that the warnings are not useful). I presume that a Vista machine could be configured to simply reject running such applications rather than asking for explicit permission.

My recommendation: try downloading and running the .jar version of DrJava.
