Summary: clone() failure in interactions panel

Initial Comment:
The following:
> Integer[] z = new Integer[9];
> z.clone()
gives
   NullPointerException:
(no other message, just NullPointerException).

I also tried: ((Object[])z).clone()  // array
Result: ok when compiled and run inside a class. 
But, NullPointerException when entered directly into the
interactions panel.

I also tried:  ((Object)z).clone()
Result: Compile error. Object.clone() is protected.
But, ok when entered directly into the interactions
panel!!!

OS : Linux
JDK : 1.5.0_03
