Summary: More obvious preferences interface

Initial Comment:
Some of the configurable components in the preferences
window are not immediately obvious how to use.  For
example, font and color options don't look like
buttons, but clicking on them brings up a chooser
window.  Instead, they should look like the file option
with a "..." button.  Perhaps background color options
can also show a swatch with the color instead of having
the text in the color.
