[DrJava] Other Java Runtime Tools

This site has a listing of non-Java languages and scripting extensions that can interact with a JVM or compile to bytecodes.  DynamicJava is listed along with several other Java-syntax-like scripting languages.  In particular, BeanShell looks promising.  CVS commits have been made at least as recent as 3 weeks ago, and Sun has decided to include it in a future version of Forte/NetBeans.  Since DynamicJava appears to be a dead project, we might want to keep an eye out for other promising contenders. . . .
