(We have not publicized this yet, however. :))
On your problem: I bet you're running some flavor of Windows. Due to the
way the JDK is installed on Windows (it puts an extra copy of java.exe in
the JRE directory), you probably need to tell DrJava where your
compiler is. (It's in a jar called tools.jar.)

This configuration framework is temporary, and we will have a more
user-friendly one in the next few months.

PS: Another answer to this problem is to change the association for .jar
files to point to the copy of javaw.exe inside the JDK directory
structure, as opposed to the JRE structure.
PS2: Just curious, where did you hear about DrJava?
