Initial Comment:
This might sound incredibly trivial but... the first thing I noticed when opening DrJava is how ugly the toolbar is. (I'm on OS X). The square buttons are not very cool, and many items don't have icons - and icons we have are very small - very far from most toolbars around there! A better toolbar might be a low-hanging fruit that could improve the first impression people have of DrJava.
