Category: User interface Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: Dan McCuaig (dmccuaig) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Floating panes Initial Comment: How about being able to undock a pane from drJava? It would be nice to have the debug pane floating so the user could see more of their code during debug sessions. Currently, the debug pane takes up editor space during debug sessions. The pane could float within drJava. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438938&aid=1499668&group_id=44253 |

Category: User interface Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: Dan Smith (dlsmith) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Use AWT file chooser under OS X Initial Comment: According to this article: <http://today.java.net/pub/a/today/2004/01/29/swing.html> The AWT file chooser looks much better under OS X than the Swing version. If that's true, it would be nice to use it instead (refactoring the file chooser creation logic into the platform-specific code). The Swing version is quite annoying, when compared to the native OS X dialog. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438938&aid=1493848&group_id=44253 |

Category: JUnit integration Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: bjwhitfield (bjwhitfield) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: JUnit Popup can freeze app Initial Comment: On a project that has not been compiled, when you ask to run JUnit tests, it pops up a dialog saying: Must Compile All Source Files to Run Unit Tests: To unit test all documents, you must first compile all out of sync source files. Would you like to compile all files and run the specified test? If you click on the "x" to close the popup, the RuntimeException "Invalid returnCode from showConfirmDialog: -1" is thrown which freezes the app. I'm going to go ahead and say that closing the dialog defaults to the user pressing no unless anyone has any objections or thoughts. I'll also see if I can find any other places this might occur. v. 20060519-1816 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438935&aid=1491783&group_id=44253 |

Category: Debugger Group: 2: Annoying Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Dan Smith (dlsmith) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: "Cannot set a breakpoint on an empty line" in Interactions Initial Comment: I get a warning stating, "Cannot set a breakpoint on an empty line," printed in blue in the Interactions pane whenever I attempt to set a breakpoint on an empty line. I'm not sure if it is intentional or just a forgotten debugging message. If it *is* intentional, the warning would probably be more appropriate in a dialog box or on the status bar. Putting it in the Interactions pane blurs the boundary between the user's program output and DrJava's feedback. (It might make a little more sense if I were running the debugger while I was setting breakpoints, but I think it would still a bit disconcerting.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438935&aid=1487530&group_id=44253 |

The Interactions pane often appears to "forget" to turn off the red highlighting after an error message is printed. Everything I subsequently type, and the command prompt, appear in red. This apparently stems from the shared code between bookmarks and breakpoints. The same warning occurs when I set *breakpoints* instead of *bookmarks*, and I'm not sure it makes sense then, either. It should only matter that the file is modified if I'm actually running the debugger. Otherwise, there should be no problem in navigating using breakpoints. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438935&aid=1487511&group_id=44253 |

On a dual monitor system, that means the dialog spans two monitors and is hard to read. Instead, the dialog should initially be centered on the application. Category: User interface Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: Dan Smith (dlsmith) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Match package.html in Open dialogs Initial Comment: Since DrJava has built-in support for javadoc, it would be reasonable to offer some support for the package-level documentation files. An "Open Folder," for example, should probably open all "package.html" files. The default "Open" filter should match the files as well, making them selectable. Note that in Java 5.0, the preferred file for package-level javadocs is named "package-info.java", not "package.html". So this might be considered a legacy issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438938&aid=1477070&group_id=44253 |

Category: User interface Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Mathias Ricken (mgricken) Assigned to: Mathias Ricken (mgricken) Summary: Go To Breakpoint/Bookmark in Yet Unseen Document Initial Comment: If the "Go to" feature is used for a breakpoint or a bookmark, and that region is in a document that hasn't been seen yet, the cursor jumps to the beginning of the document, not to the actual beginning of the region. After the user has switched to a document once, "Go to" works correctly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438935&aid=1476650&group_id=44253 |

New breakpoints and highlights do get the new color. When a breakpoint is enabled or disabled, it also doesn't change the color. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438935&aid=1475743&group_id=44253 |

Feature Requests item #1475683, was opened at 2006-04-24 12:33 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by Item Submitter You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438938&aid=1475683&group_id=44253 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: User interface Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: Mathias Ricken (mgricken) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: "Enter" Key in Breakpoints and Bookmarks Panel Initial Comment: When the focus is in the list of breakpoints or bookmarks, pressing "Enter" should invoke the "go to" command. If you tab over to the buttons, "Enter" should invoke that button. Since the breakpoints and bookmarks panels inherit from the same base class (RegionTreePanel), and that base class doesn't know what buttons it displays, we have to be able to specify a "default" action for the panels. In both of the current panels that "default" action should be "go to". So what we need is a method in RegionTreePanel: void setDefaultAction(), and the subclasses set that action accordingly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438938&aid=1475683&group_id=44253 |

Category: User interface Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: Mathias Ricken (mgricken) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Copy/Paste History Initial Comment: Keep a list of the last 10 strings a user copied (Ctrl-C) or cut (Ctrl-X), then allow the user to paste (Ctrl-V) the last string as usual, or press Ctrl-Shift-V to display the list of the last strings. The user can then pick one of the strings, move that string to the front, and paste it. Example: Initial list: {} User copies: "foo" List: {"foo"} User pastes: "foo" User copies: "bar" List: {"bar", "foo"} User pastes: "foo" User copies: "fum" List: {"fum", "bar", "foo"} User presses Ctrl-Shift-V: The list {"fum", "bar", "foo"} is displayed. The user selects "bar". "bar" is pasted. Category: UI: MacOS X-specific Group: 1: Would be nice if fixed ... Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: hperkins (hperkins) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: No splash screen on OS X launch Initial Comment: After upgrading to the latest OS X Java 5 release (OS X 10.4.6, Java 5 release 4), DrJava no longer displays the small rectangular splash screen during launch. Noticed on today's beta (0420) and on the previous one. No big deal, except that nothing seems to happen for a while after clicking on the DrJava icon, then after a half-minute or so the full IDE window appears. Category: User interface Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: Dan Smith (dlsmith) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Don't prompt to close empty "untitled" Initial Comment: I often create a new (untitled) document, start to type, change my mind and erase what I've typed, and then close the document. In these cases, I'm prompted to save my "changes". There's no need to prompt me, as it's obvious there is nothing useful in the document to save. This is part of a more general problem of recognizing when the current edited text is identical to the saved file. We handle it well when the original file state is restored via "undo." I'm not sure it's reasonable to expect the editor to recognize the match when arbitrary edits have occurred. But in the special case of an unsaved, empty document, the problem is trivial. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=438938&aid=1473262&group_id=44253 |

Category: UI: MacOS X-specific Group: 4: Serious Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Cannot change working directory Initial Comment: Running OS X 10.4.6 and Java 1.5.0, I can change the working directory under the Preferences. However, it appears as though the working directory remains /Applications, the directory where Dr.Java.app resides. This is serious because some users do not have permission to place files in /Applications.
