In addition of security risks, there are times when DOD simply cannot connect to servers containing the drivers. After all, it is possible that driver information file contain an web address that is out of date. Besides, constantly monitoring device (un)plugging status eats away processing time, and it may set off firewalls, which will encourage users to compromise their own machines just to use this service.

For default DOD configuration, automatic installations should be turned off. If DOD detect a device but its driver is not installed, it should prompt users to look for driver in local and online locations (exact addresses can be changed by users), instead of just going for online resource.
