Also, if you're just looking to get the max fps possible for games, etc., a lightweight window manager like twm gives a noticeable improvement over something like KDE and is generally smoother. I've started using twm for a lot of my testing and benchmarking because it's also much faster to restart the server when I make changes. :) On Wed, 19 Jun 2002, PlasmaJohn wrote: > On 2002-06-19, Jose' Fonseca wrote: > > > Also don't forget to reduce the screen resolution, to see as freeing more > > onboard memory how much the fps rise. > > Back in the day[1] when all I had was a Matrox G200 (on Utah), I remember > having to create a special .xconfig for Quake3 because the X server would > allocate enough resources to handle the highest resolution and bit-depth > specified on the "Modes" line of the "Display" section used. > > The everyday config was set to 1600x1200 and didn't even load the 3D driver > while the special Quake config specified a maximum of 640x480. > > I haven't any clue if this same issue affects the DRI in general or the > individual card drivers in specific, but you may wish to follow a similar > strategy (eg. make an 800x600 config, etc.) > > John Klar > > [1] Yes, yes, the day sucked. > > > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Bringing you mounds of caffeinated joy > >>> http://thinkgeek.com/sf <<< > > _______________________________________________ > Dri-devel mailing list > Dri...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dri-devel > -- Leif Delgass http://www.retinalburn.net |
