Thanks for your suggestions and offers to help, Jacob and Jerome. Since my last post I've installed a new kernel (stock debian 2.6.18-2) and ran dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. Now glxinfo says I have direct rendering (I'm using the radeon driver) and glxgears runs smoothly, but when I try to open Google Earth nothing happens; and when I try to play planet penguin racer, the game doesn't open but everything on my screen--the background image, icons, mouse cursor--suddenly doubles or triples in size. Is there something else I need to install or configure? Thanks, Tim |
