if you are using the binary HAL module with the matrox driver and not
with the xorg one then you are using different drivers.  I haven't
looked at the mga driver in ages, but it used to be synced up with
xfree86.  Matrox recently changed their license, and it doesn't look
like any subsequent changes in their version could be merged into xorg
if there were any.

Hello,
I want just to ask if the mga-2D driver, which is comming with the 
latest snapshot, is the same with the matrox.com's provided driver. I am 
expreiencing strange effect when I am using the DVI-D. The picture at 
start.up is somehow with different resolution and when I switch to 
konsole and then back to X it is absolutely normal. Previously I was 
using the driver form matrox.com(December 2004 build) and there was no 
such problem...

Hello,
I think that the G550 doesn't need HAL modules. I don't load it at
all...I've installed the dri-snapshot and it has installed new driver or
it is the same which is comming with xorg?

AFAIK, the mga driver hasn't really changed between 6.8.x and cvs
HEAD.  Also, the open MGA driver doesn't have proper support for DVI. 
I think it work ok if the bios sets the TMDS transmitter up correctly,
but there's no code to handle it natively.  I dont' know about matrox'
latest code, but their older source was almost identical to the xorg
source.  The HAL module had proper DVI handling.
