I have a problem starting X since I tried to install DRI in my Notebook,
which is a Pentium 4 with an ATI Mobility Radeon (IGP 340M chipset). I'm
using Gentoo with a 2.4.25 kernel.
I tried to follow the step by step configuration at
http://dri.sourceforge.net "ipsis verbis", and everything seemed to be
going more or less as planned.
When I had done it all (compiled DRI, Mesa and DRM) and tried to start X
it crashed, and now it always crashes. I can't start X even if I change
"dmesg" tells me everything is correctly detected but the XFree86.0.log
tells me this:
(II) LoadModule: "bitmap"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libbitmap.a
Duplicate symbol __i686.get_pc_thunk.bx in
Also defined in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/fonts/libbitmap.a
Fatal server error:
Module load failure
I've read about some similiar problems on the web, involving the
__i686.get_pc_thunk.bx symbol also, but not while loading the "bitmap"
module, which seems strange to me...
Hope somebody can help me,
