i got the DRI driver working on my DebianSystem with a Radeon 9200 and the radeon-driver.
But there is something weird about it.
When I installed the System first time (yesterday), I got following problems:
glxinfo reportet "direct rendering: Yes" and things like "OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R200 ...TCL"
glxgears reportet framerates of 1700.000 FPS but looks somehow slow
then, starting mplayer with option "-vo gl" or "-vo gl2" the output was _very_ slow, unusable, it was just about twice as fast as pure gl-software rendering.
Then I gave up, frustrated, switched of the computer and went to bed (after 16 hours getting the new card working in 3D with every driver available). I'm no newbee, I'm using Linux for at least 6 years day by day.
Today morning after switching on the computer, it worked! But I didn't change anything after the last failing test (with rebooting) and nobody has touched the computer. Weird but nice.
So I went to a friend with a similar hard/software and telled him. We try'd the same procedure of installing on his computer, the same effect, everything (logs, glxinfo, glxgears) says it works, but it's slow just about twice as fast as pure software. We try'd 4 hours and truely every option and tweak that could have something to do with this. Nothing it didn't work.
Then, hours later I try'd to find the problems I found the programm driconf, and tested some configuration. I realised that turning on the option "texturedepth" to "prefered 32bit" the effect, of not working, came again. So I enabled "force 16bit" and saved the config in /etc/drirc. Tested without restarting nice, everything seems working like whished in the drirc. Then for testing if everything really works, I restartet the computer. Now guess ... I got the weird effect again, everything says it is working but it's slooow. I had to erase all the drirc files and to restart at least the x-server to get everything again really working.
This error is reproduceable.
To me, it seems, like there are some variables in the driver which aren't properly/randomly initialised.(?)
Know I fear by installing anythin new on this system, hard or software, the driver might not be working again, like it is the case for my friend (he don't care, because he don't uses 3D acceleration).
thx for listening ;-)
