So, Now I'm up and running, thanks to help here!
I found the xorg packages that dropline installed and reinstalled them,
then I reran the current DRI install instructions and avoided the "make
install" command for XFree86 installation this time!
It all seems to be working now, after perusing the Xorg.0.log file :)
Funny tho, some of those errors I posted before are still in the log
file, but this time the drm tries more tricks and eventually
enables accelleration etc.
Now to go dig for a soundchip driver for this laptop..
Recap: I now have slack 9.1, dropline gnomed, which added xorg 6.7.0,
and added May 7th's CVS DRI to the works,
all running on a new Compaq Presario R3000 (an R3038CL specifically)
which has a Radeon 9000 chip inside.
Thanks for the help all!
Anyone want to see any log files to see what all the current DRI decided
to enable etc?
