I have a LFS Linux running on a Dell Inspiron 5000e Laptop, e.g.:
- a Rage Mobility M3 card (ATI Rage Mobility LF [AGP]);
- a Linux 2.4.18 kernel with the AGPGART module associated to the Intel
440 BX chipset of the laptop;
- a full clean installation of XFree 4.2.0 from the official source code;
- a succesful build of the last DRI-CVS source code.
When DRI is disabled, everything works fine, I get around 140 FPS with
glxgears, even though glxinfo states that direct rendering is disabled.
When DRI gets enabled, XFree does not complain about anything (its log
file is pretty clean), nor does glxinfo (direct rendering: Yes).
Everything works as expected except that if I try glxgears, everything
but the mouse seem to hang. If I put a watchdog on the glxgears program
to kill it after a few seconds then the system returns to its normal
state; all I had then was a computer with a black glxgears window, which
was completely irresponsive to the keyboard and mouse-clicks (until the
watchdog killed the faulty glxgears task).
I assume that this problem is linked to the kernel module but I do not
have the time, nor the knowledge to investigate this further.
Does anyone experienced/fixed this problem?
Thanks for your help
