I have a new laptop and would like to get DRI working on it. The X
configuration supplied by the laptop vendor works, but is rather generic
and doesn't support DRI. I suspect this is a brand new chip, and it may
or may not be supported with the version of XFree86 that comes with Red
Red Hat's "Xconfigurator" identifies it as "ATI|Radeon Mobility M6 LY".
Attempting to complete the configuration does not work (the attempt to
test the X server fails). If I write the config file anyway and run
startx, the only "EE" line is
(EE) RADEON(0): Failed to detect the panel size
After that it says no usable screens were found.
If I run "lspci", the result is
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 4c59
I'm quite prepared to hear that I have to compile Xfree86 and/or DRI
and/or the Linux kernel from the latest sources, but I don't want to go
through all that pain unless I have reason to believe it will work in
the end. Has anyone gotten XFree86/DRI to work with this chip?
