i've got ati card with mach64 chipset ( this is what lspci says:
"0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility P/M
AGP 2x (rev 64)" )
it's got 4mb of memory and it's in an old ibm thinkpad x20 notebook. i tried
to get it to do direct rendering, at least to get glxinfo say Direct
Rendering: Yes. i have to say i succeeded against all expetations by i have
1) i understand that all i can do is 800x600x16bit, however the laptop has
1024x768 display and it seems somehow weird that it can't do this accelerated.
is there some way to use system memory to help the onboard graphics memory? (i
am a total dummy when it comes to graphic cards)
2) normally i'm using debian testing with xfree86 4.3.0. glxgears in here does
around 120-150 fps. when i use xorg with the dri support enabled, i get 24-29
fps. any idea why? i'm using the xorg glxgears and it's linked to the xorg
libraries, so it shouldnt be it. any ideas?
thanks for the help
