I recently installed woody in one of my box using i810
video card. And I happened running glxgear and find an
amazing frame rate nearly 300!. This box before use
Slackware and glxgear only shows 89 to 90 . Being
curious I try to run several 3D game (bzflags and
tuxracer) and find it is really good.
To know where the problem is I tried to swap lot of
things. Woody uses XFree-4.1.0. Slack uses 4.3.0.
After many try I can make the same result with 4.3.0
1. Use the i810_dri.so in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri
and i810_drv.o AND with libGL.so.1 in debian replace
the latest Mesa in the old system.
I dont know which one is the culprit of slow
performance. libGL or dri. The dri kernel modules is
from the ac kernel 2.4.22-rc2-ac3 for both cases.
Later on I also test another box using 810 video chip
set with the same result. This is i815 mother board
and XFree86 use the same driver i810
I think it may have some information for developers or
any i810 user, this means, use i810 driver for debian
and libGL from debian; you get a BIG BOOST (from 89 to
