Hello; I recently grabbed the DRI project from CVS, compiled, installed and everything basically went smoothly. Things work more or less as they should, things are quick, etc, etc. There are just a couple things maybe someone could help clear up for me: 1. When I type this email (in Netscape 4.75) I get horizontal lines flashing across the text box in which I'm typing. This flashing also happens when scrolling rapidly. 2. I use the Enlightenment window manager. When I popup the help browser and move my mouse across it's window the background of the window produces the same sort of flashing of horizontal lines. I'm thinking 1 and 2 are related. 3. I installed Quake 3 and it runs at a great frame rate, I'm pleased with this, but the textures or tiles that make up the levels flash in and out of existence to the point where I can see through walls. The game is very playable but the flashing gets a little irritating after a map or so. I'm hoping all of these things are related and that there is a fix available. I've searched through the archives and various other sites including news groups and I can't seem to find the solution on my own so far. By the looks of it the rage 128 set up seems to be somewhat common and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem or a similar one. Obviously I'll need to post my config files for addition help. Let me what what to post. Maybe sharing your configuration will help shed some little on this. My vitals are: PIII 667MHz 256MB RAM Asus CUSL2 mobo w/o onboard sound ATI Rage Fury 32MB SBLive! Kernel 2.3.99pre9 XFree4.0.1 with CVS DRI from October 30, 2000 Also, X will not run at a 32bit depth. Thanks for any insight. Jon. |

Hi! Yes, I´ve got an ATi Xpert2000 and I´ve also got the "flashing" text-widgets and flashing polygons in Q3A. It seems to me that the DRI-driver does not utilize any double-buffering in the 3D mode, so that you sometimes can see when the screen gets repainted. Anyone got a fix? The flickering is gone! Harray! 8^) Thanks for the info. > > Kernel 2.3.99pre9 > > why not 2.4.0test9?? it's the lastest development kernel! Are there big improvements? Maybe you could ladel some out for me wrt to graphics/mobo support? Not that I'll need much convincing. ;^) > > XFree4.0.1 with CVS DRI from October 30, 2000 > > ahha... get the 'dri' version!! erm, K, I downloaded the cvs version of X 401. compiled and installed. Got the cvs version of dri, updated with the cvs command you sent me previously, compiled and installed. Flawless compilation and installation. DRI, according to X startup, appears to be enabled and happy. The flicker still appears in te Enlightenment help browser but from what I've read this may be due to poor use of colour maps? I don't use the help continuously anyway so it's no biggie. Flicker still occurs in some test boxes but only after I hit return. This is much more tolerable. Thanks for help. BTW, I wondering if anyone had any tweaks available for the DRI/ATI X server setup? Maybe send an XF86Config file? 8^) Jon. |
