I just gave a try to the latest drivers on linux.3dfx.com for V5 5500
I basically copied the modules/ directory over my old 4.0.1 directory (i
have Slackware, no rpmz allowed). I did not change tdfx_drm (still using
kernel 2.4.0-test6's tdfx.o), and i used the Glide3 from same web page
(3.10-2), and guess what:
it fails to set write-combining on the V5 :(
All modules (3dfx.o, tdfx.o) are loaded fine, and I also have a Voodoo2 on
the system, which has it's own write-combine regions and is happy.
Obviously before doing this "driver upgrade" I had write-combining working
fine, and obviously I realized a 10fps drop in Q3demo w/o the
write-combining. I hard reset yielded no different results. So something
has changed in the /usr/X11R6/lib/modules from linux.3dfx.com to make this
This is on a dual BX mob btw.
Also (this probably is a glide3 thing for Daryll), under 24bit X11
color depth, and running Q3Demo w/ 32bit textures+color depth, I get
black (or sometimes white) backdrops on certain rendered items, such as
the status items (3d spinning-head next to health, 3d spinning ammo pack,
and also the heads of players whenever i press TAB, or the last guy who
shot me. The actual 3d objects look fine, they just have a backdrop. As if
an opaque mask is drawn behind the image ...)
