We tried using the ATI X850 card for testing out hw accelerated volume rendering under xorg 7.2/7.3. We tried several programs like OpenRM, OpenSG and OpenSceneGraph. None of the worked right with r300 driver. We are going to try with r200 series of cards since they support more features.

Any experiences with CT data volume rendering on r200 cards here.

The proprietary driver does not support those cards nowadays (other
than if you use some quite old kernel and Xorg) so you could say that
the free one is infinitely more full featured than the proprietary one
:)
