Hello there I would greatly appreciate a small amount of your time to assist with my doctoral research at The University of Newcastle. The research concerns open source licensing and we're seeking developers working on Java projects. The research is supervised, ethics-approved, anonymous and results will be freely available. Participation will also provide a custom licensing report for your project. To learn more, please visit: http://licensing-research.newcastle.edu.au Thanks for reading this email, and I hope you'll consider participating. Best regards Ben Alex (My apologies for being off-topic; this list will not be emailed again) |

DrFTPD is baded on ftpserver by Rana Bhattacharya, which was later donated to apache avalon project. Much has been rewritten since then however. We have since sublicensed DrFTPD under the GPL, which means you are free to use drftpd for commercial use at no cost under the terms of the GPL, which state that you need to give back any changes you make to DrFTPD at no cost (among other things). (If this is a problem for you, i'm sure we can work something out). > 2. Who or which group is the author of drftpd? And > which develop mode of the drftpd ? For Example: 1 > manager,2 developer ... The tests are mostly written by me and test various components of DrFTPD, mostly the plugins and not the core parts. DrFTPD is used by a relatively large number of users, but there are some issues that still have to be worked out (for example SSL support and Archive plugin come to mind). Dear, Our organization is planning a big project which is a Linux-Embedded system and will be sold as products in the market. It is necessary for us to choose a FTP product. From internet, we found your FTP product -- drftpd, and we are very interested in it, so we have a few important questions to ask though some of the answers to them might be found in your website, but we are a little afraid whether the information might be out-of-date. We will really appreciate your help if you could help us find the answers to the following questions: 1. We would like to know wether we have to obtain some special license or patent to be allowed to use drftpd commercially because we will use drftpd in our product to be sold in the market. Though we know that drftpd is under the Apache Software License/GPL, we are still not quite sure what to do with the situation of commercial use. Which license refer to Apache Software License/GPL condition mentioned elsewhere. (For example:GPL, LGPL, BSD ...) If so, could you tell us the operation flow and how much money we have to pay for it if necessary. 2. Who or which group is the author of drftpd? And which develop mode of the drftpd ? For Example: 1 manager,2 developer ... 3. Which test mode of the drftpd? (I find the test scripts in the src code.Is it used the test scripts in the development.) Maybe some of questions are not suitable, but any informations will help us a lot. Thank you very much again! Wish a successful further cooperation! Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

We need to decide what to do with the website, it's target audience is new and existing users, i guess it does a decent job at new users but existing users need more documentation. There needs to be a better way to submit feedback on docs. wikimedia does support Discuss: pages but i have yet to see anyone use them. Anyway, we need to decide what to do: Educating users on using wiki more, has a learning curve for new users. Possibly use forum for docs & feedback zombie suggested using phpnuke, which apparantly has builtin documentation with comment/forum system. It also has news and a variety of other features. I've been pondering using faq-o-matic which allows people to ask questions and answer those questions. Those questions and answers could later be corrected and organized, hopefully leading to extensive documentation which is heavily influenced by feedback from users. I guess this is kind of like a forum. A forum is problably a good entry point for feedback and new documentation aswell. I'm sure there are other tools and i'd like to hear what you're comfortable using and what would be fitting to our/your needs. A requirement is that it needs to support read-only mirrors but i'm sure this could be fixed with some hacks in one way or another for most software, |

Well first some how my !who and !speed commands got messed up. Also it affected my site who. When I do site who it says 500 java.lang.NullPointerException. When I do a !who in the channel it gives this in the log. WARN FtpConn from 69.x.x.x net.sf.drftpd.master.BaseFtpConnection - java.lang.NullPointerException at net.sf.drftpd.master.config.FtpConfig.checkPathPermission(FtpConfig.java:165) at net.sf.drftpd.master.config.FtpConfig.checkPathPermission(FtpConfig.java:157) at net.sf.drftpd.master.config.FtpConfig.checkHideInWho(FtpConfig.java:143) at net.sf.drftpd.master.command.plugins.UserManagment.doSITE_WHO(UserManagment.java:1379) at net.sf.drftpd.master.command.plugins.UserManagment.execute(UserManagment.java:1514) at net.sf.drftpd.master.command.CommandManager.execute(CommandManager.java:81) at net.sf.drftpd.master.BaseFtpConnection.service(BaseFtpConnection.java:485) at net.sf.drftpd.master.BaseFtpConnection.run(BaseFtpConnection.java:444) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) The only thing that I could think of that I really changed was to the new slavemanager=org.drftpd.slaveselection.filter.SlaveSelectionManager But it seems to work alright on my other site. One other thing on my site that just about everything is working right seems I lost the !df command when upgrading to new cvs on May 23rd. Wasn't sure if this was left off intentually or what. But as you can see in the log the !df doesn't show. DEBUG EventThread net.sf.drftpd.event.irc.IRCListener - _commands = !invite(msg) !who !slaves !affils !bnc !{al,wk,month, day}{up,dn} !bw !speeddf command. Noticed that in the log it doesn't have it as a command. Any way Thanks for any responses.... |

Anyway here is a small selection of the new features: *AUTH TLS support. *Queued renames. *Modularized command handlers. *Ability to change text output without editing .java source files. And many many many more small features that we just forgot about when doing all the coding, next release will contain a more complete changelog. We'll also do our best to release more often in the future. ==DOCUMENTATION== All documentation and installation notes is available from http://drftpd.org/ ==UPGRADING== File format for saving filelist to disk has changed, from XML using JDOM to using a custom MLST format. The reason for this was that XML was inefficient, both writing using DOM and taking many times more disk space. To convert your old files.xml to files.mlst, issue the following command, in the main DrFTPD 1.0 directory, containing the old files.mlst. <pre>java -classpath classes:lib/jdom.jar:lib/log4j-1.2.8.jar net.sf.drftpd.remotefile.FileListConverter net.sf.drftpd.remotefile.JDOMSerialize net.sf.drftpd.remotefile.MLSTSerialize</pre> Or on win32: java -classpath classes;lib/jdom.jar;lib/log4j-1.2.8.jar net.sf.drftpd.remotefile.FileListConverter net.sf.drftpd.remotefile.JDOMSerialize net.sf.drftpd.remotefile.MLSTSerialize drftpd.conf has been split up into drftpd.conf and slave.conf to avoid confusion. Almost all configuration files have been moved to conf/. ftp-data/ has been removed, it didn't makes sense when running as a standalone application. The subfolders text, users, logs have been moved into the DrFTPD main directory. DrFTPD 1.0 also uses wrapper instead of the old bash scripts. It provides full service managment. It also allows running as a Win32 service on Windows NT based platforms. |

It looks to me like you didn't have a proper <mask/> entry in slaves.xml for your slave though, you run with master.localslave=true and when the slave was rejected it shut down. /mog On tor, 2004-01-01 at 14:41, ron...@wa... wrote: > Hello , > > I followed the installation instructionds but both server and slave > seems to have problem with the rmi. > > The server returns: > C:\drftpd>java -Djava.library.path=lib > -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=192.168.0.7 -D > java.rmi.server.randomIDs=true -Djava.rmi.server.disableHttp=true > net.sf.drftpd. > master.ConnectionManager > DrFTPD 0.9.0 master server starting. > http://drftpd.sourceforge.net > slave.root.1: site > Rejecting RMI connection: @ronenpc/@192.168.0.7. > C:\drftpd>pause > Press any key to continue . . . > > > > > And the Slave return : > C:\drftpd>java -Djava.library.path=lib > -Djava.rmi.dgc.leaseValue=300000 -Djava.r > mi.server.randomIDs=true net.sf.drftpd.slave.SlaveImpl drftpd.conf > DrFTPD 0.9.0 slave server starting > slave.root.1: site > 0 [main] INFO net.sf.drftpd.slave.RootBasket - C:\drftpd\site in > mount C:\ > 16 [main] INFO net.sf.drftpd.slave.SlaveImpl - Getting master > reference > 1031 [main] INFO net.sf.drftpd.slave.SlaveImpl - > java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: 192.168.0.7; > nested excep > tion is: > java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect > at sun.rmi.transport.tcp.TCPEndpoint.newSocket(Unknown Source) > at sun.rmi.transport.tcp.TCPChannel.createConnection(Unknown > Source) > at sun.rmi.transport.tcp.TCPChannel.newConnection(Unknown! > Source) > at sun.rmi.server.UnicastRef.newCall(Unknown Source) > at sun.rmi.registry.RegistryImpl_Stub.lookup(Unknown Source) > at java.rmi.Naming.lookup(Unknown Source) > at net.sf.drftpd.slave.SlaveImpl.<init>(SlaveImpl.java:165) > at net.sf.drftpd.slave.SlaveImpl.main(SlaveImpl.java:131) > Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect > at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Native Method) > at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.doConnect(Unknown Source) > at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(Unknown Source) > at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(Unknown S! ource) > at java.net.Socket.connect(Unknown Source) > at java.net.Socket.connect(Unknown Source) > at java.net.Socket.<init>(Unknown Source) > at java.net.Socket.<init>(Unknown Source) > at > sun.rmi.transport.proxy.RMIDirectSocketFactory.createSocket(Unknown S > ource) > at > sun.rmi.transport.proxy.RMIMasterSocketFactory.createSocket(Unknown S > ource) > ... 8 more > > > Please assist > > Ronen > > ______________________________________________________________________ > Walla! Hello , I followed the installation instructionds but both server and slave seems to have problem with the rmi. The server returns: C:\drftpd>java -Djava.library.path=lib -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=192.168.0.7 -D java.rmi.server.randomIDs=true -Djava.rmi.server.disableHttp=true net.sf.drftpd. master.ConnectionManager DrFTPD 0.9.0 master server starting. http://drftpd.sourceforge.net slave.root.1: site Rejecting RMI connection: @ronenpc/@192.168.0.7. C:\drftpd>pause Press any key to continue . . . And the Slave return : C:\drftpd>java -Djava.library.path=lib -Djava.rmi.dgc.leaseValue=300000 -Djava.r mi.server.randomIDs=true net.sf.drftpd.slave.SlaveImpl drftpd.conf DrFTPD 0.9.0 slave server starting slave.root.1: site 0 [main] INFO net.sf.drftpd.slave.RootBasket - C:\drftpd\site in mount C:\ 16 [main] INFO net.sf.drftpd.slave.SlaveImpl - Getting master reference 1031 [main] INFO net.sf.drftpd.slave.SlaveImpl - java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: 192.168.0.7; nested excep tion is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect at sun.rmi.transport.tcp.TCPEndpoint.newSocket(Unknown Source) at sun.rmi.transport.tcp.TCPChannel.createConnection(Unknown Source) at sun.rmi.transport.tcp.TCPChannel.newConnection(Unknown Source) at sun.rmi.server.UnicastRef.newCall(Unknown Source) at sun.rmi.registry.RegistryImpl_Stub.lookup(Unknown Source) at java.rmi.Naming.lookup(Unknown Source) at net.sf.drftpd.slave.SlaveImpl.<init>(SlaveImpl.java:165) at net.sf.drftpd.slave.SlaveImpl.main(SlaveImpl.java:131) Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Native Method) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.doConnect(Unknown Source) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(Unknown Source) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(Unknown Source) at java.net.Socket.connect(Unknown Source) at java.net.Socket.connect(Unknown Source) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Unknown Source) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Unknown Source) at sun.rmi.transport.proxy.RMIDirectSocketFactory.createSocket(Unknown S ource) at sun.rmi.transport.proxy.RMIMasterSocketFactory.createSocket(Unknown S ource) ... 8 more Please assist Ronen ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Walla!
