cloning 80gb to 320gb . clone failed because of source disk errors, and it left the 320gb hard drive with a smaller partition and I cannot see the unused space. any suggestions on how to return the 320gb drive to it's original size?

It's only partition size is 80 GB. The rest of 240 GB is still there, just unallocated. You can use GParted live either to resize that, or to create a new partition.
