I use CloneZilla live with Ubuntu "clonezilla-live-20170816-zesty-amd64" withe a nas free-nas "FreeNAS-11.0-U2 (e417d8aa5)" and have somme times error connetion during saving with ssh protocol on cloneZilla.
Not sure it's Linux kernel regression or the hardware issue. You can try to use different version of Clonezilla live, like 2.5.2-29 or 20170829-artful: http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php
They come with newer Linux kernel so the results might be different.

I don't now if the problem is side cloneZilla or FreeNas.
