Mircea,
Please try the following Admin Service privilege instead:
./RegistryManager.pl -u <userid> -P -X
"Admin/All_Publications/admin/root"
These privileges were changed for the last release. Looks like we need
to update our wiki documentation. The privilege lists are
detailed in the Admin/Admin_data/privilege.xml file (associated tasks
are in task_list.xml).
Let us know if you are still having problems accessing the Admin service
after trying the above privilege.

Hello!
I managed to install DPubS and the demoRepository. Then I created two profiles and gave one Admin privileges (%./RegistryManager.pl -u <userid> -P -X "Admin/All_Publications/admin/all") and the other Initial Editor Privileges (>RegistryManager.pl -u Editor1 -P -X "Editorial/demo.aujm/editor/senior").
By logging in the first user, the Editorial Service works just fine. However for the second user, under the Admin Service does not appear any task or link or anything. Did I do something wrong/incomplete, or these services are not accesibile in the html profile page but only in command line?
Best regards,

Jorge,
I will try to help you. It would appear that you figured out the earlier
problem you
posted :
"failed to resolve handler `Apache::Registry': failed to resolve handler
`DPubS::modPerlCleanup': Can't locate DPubS/modPerlCleanup.pm"
The importer command line script is an independent application that
relies on a properly
configured DPubS server.
It sounds like you have set up the demonstration repository in order to
experiment with
DPubS. Are you able to browse titles, bring up article abstracts,
download articles, and
perform searches on the demo repository?
It is also important to check the logs for errors. Errors may appear in
the dpubs.log under
DPubS/logs and in the Apache log error_log (or whatever you call it) in
the Apache logs
directory.
Please confirm the current working status of the demo repository and
check the logs to
see if there are errors. Let me know what you find. Send me as much
detail as possible. If
you send me a url I may be able to take a look at the server.

Those look like some hack efforts. It looks like some people used those urls in place of handle. Those shouldn't cause any problem to the system. Hi All, While skimming through the AccessFailures logs, I found some unusual requests that look like attempts to hack the site. I recognize that such attempts are not unusual, but wanted to double-check with y'all to see if the pattern looks familiar and if there is any particular danger we should be watching out for. The slightly longer explanation is that the file /DPubS/tmp/Subscription/AccessFailures.userid contains about a half dozen entries in which the field for requested resource is not in DPubS format (e.g., osul.dsq.test01/1205786348), but rather a URL. I've copied and pasted the URLs below, in case that might be helpful. - http://rabotnitsa.ru/joomla__/administrator/backups/arim/zaf/. - http://www.clubnataciotortosa.com/UserFiles/File/edut/ade/. - http://www.landi-sempach-emmen.ch/aktionen/image/zafecez/roxovef/. - http://mojazubarka.sk/test/admin/sicaqe/jufoxir/. - http://www.ce-enterprise.com/inetonlinetk/shop/files/img/logo_DarkBlueStyle/goge/oxag/ . - http://chyngachanga.ru/content/wuge/okup/. I guessing that the fact that these are showing up in the access*Failures*log suggests that there's probably nothing to worry about, but I wanted to double-check. Henry, Please send me the generic user id and password. What do you mean by non-ip machine? The login subsystem is separate from the access control subsystem. So you should be able to login, or create a new profile and login, regardless of location or ip range (as long as cookies are enabled). Hi All, We have just heard from subscribers that they are not able to log in. Further testing has revealed a set of functionality that doesn't make much sense to me. I'm hoping that you can help us diagnose it. If you would like to test the situation yourselves, please let me know and I can e-mail you a generic/testing user login to use. In overview, the login system is either working or not working as a result of a combination of browser and (physical) location. Here at the library, I can log in to the publication using both IE7 and Firefox. At home, I can log in using Firefox but not IE7. On both machines, the IP address is not within a valid range. Our users have not specified what browsers they are using, but are apparently attempting to log in from non-IP-range machines. Any insight y'all could provide would be much appreciated. Dear Kaushal,
For a demo of DPubS, the best thing to look at right now are the
various publications using DPubS. Nine current projects are listed here:
http://dpubs.org/projects.html
We're talking about setting up a DPubS sandbox, where users could
play with the backend more, but we've not gotten to this.
For installation instructions, see the DPubS wiki:
http://dpubs.org/wiki
and look under "DPubS Installation Documentation". A good starting
place for all DPubS info is http://dpubs.org.
Let us know if you don't find what you need.
Best,

Hello, In your dpubs_ji.toc.xml UIC document, replace <MD name="currentMD" version="1.0" /> with <MD name="tocMD" version="1.0" /> currentMD always grabs the most recent issue, not what is given as handle in URL. Hello All, I am not sure who reads this list since it has gone unused since December. However, I thought that I should give it a try. We had disabled the dynamic link generation on our "Past Issues" page so that we could provide static links back to the original server for old content that we have not yet migrated to DPubS. As we convert and ingest the old content, we would like to update the list so that the top of the list is dynamically generated as usual followed by a list of static links to the non-migrated content on our old server. I have reintroduced the code for what I believe to be the dynamic generation back into the past.xsl file in our osul.dsq publication files. The list of links to past issues is generated. However, all the links take you to the current issue and not the past issue that the links indicate. For example, one of the dynamically generated HTML links is: <a href="/DPubS?service=UI&version=1.0&verb=Display&page=toc&ha ndle=osul.dsq/1200341384">Volume 27, Number 3 (2007)</a> This will take us to the URL: http://dpubs.dsq-sds.org/DPubS?service=UI <http://dpubs.dsq-sds.org/DPubS?service=UI&version=1.0&verb=Display&page=toc &handle=osul.dsq/1200341384> &version=1.0&verb=Display&page=toc&handle=osul.dsq/1200341384 This is expected based on the HTML link. However, the resulting page is the current issue. Any thoughts? Kyle Kaliebe Systems Developer/Engineer Knowledge Bank University Libraries Ohio State University kal...@os... |

Henry, I know we developed a schema for publication.xml, to use in the Admin Service. We'll send that around, and one for the publishers too, if there is one. Or tell you where it is in the system. Last August, I began some documentation for the Admin Service section that dealt with publication data. I've attached it. It may be a little out-of-date. And the idea now is to build this sort of documentation directly into the Admin Service, as "on-board" help. We hope to have that added in the next release. Henry,
The importer script functions by making requests to the running
DPubS server.
Even though I have not seen the 500 error you are reporting below it likely
indicates a
configuration problem. Please double check that the host and port are set
correctly in the
DPubS/Config/config_constants.pl file. Check that the script you are
running contains
the correct $source_dir setting. This should be set automatically by the
load_settings.pl
configuration script and should point into you DPubS release.
I would also check the Apache error log file. These 500 errors
should be appearing
in the error log file. There may be additional information here.
I have a few questions. I was able to find a journal site for
Disability Studies
Quarterly that contains content. Have you successfully loaded content in
the past?
If so, have you made any significant changes recently?
David
DPubS Development
Example: ProjectEuclid.org
When we Submit content we see entries in the Apache log that look like:

Hi All, I've encountered (caused?) an error and have not been able to figure out how to fix it. Briefly, whenever I try to run one of the scripts in the DPubS/Services/Editorial/Batch folder (submit_publisher.pl, submit_publication.pl, or DPubS_Importer.pl, the process churns along well for a while, but then fails and reports this error: Error: Status: Install of document osul failed at repository located at [our dpubs staging server] due to the following error message from the respository:"<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <TITLE>500 Internal Server Error</TITLE> </HEAD><BODY> <H1>Internal Server Error</H1> The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.<P> Please contact the server administrator, ro...@dp... and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.<P> More information about this error may be available in the server error log.<P> <HR> <ADDRESS>Apache/1.3.37 Server at [our dpubs staging server] Port 80</ADDRESS> </BODY></HTML> " Has anyone else encountered this error? Any suggestions why it would show up while ingesting content? I've looked at the Apache logs for further information, and they register an attempt to POST, but not much more info. Hello, Did you run setup script in the new server? The xml file itself does not configure DPubS; the setup script uses that xml file. Hi All,
We have been trying to reload our content on a different (but at one point
cloned) server and I have hit a wall when trying to ingest an issue. The
script DPubS_Importer.pl fails with the following message:
Error: submitting : 1190827525

I've highlighted what seems to be the crucial error message, but I'm not
sure why it would throw this error. The configuration file
Local/setup_config_settings.xml includes this server in the list of
trusted_clients, both by domain name and by IP address.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Henry

Henry,
We don't think there's an easy way to get DPubS to display URLs
differently than it does (at least in the browser address display).
There are probably ways to do this, but they will likely be difficult
and/or tricky, especially if you have or will have multiple publications.
I'm a little worried, thought, that we don't exactly understand what
you're trying to do. So maybe some examples would help.
It is relatively easy to ensure that existing URLs will resolve to
the right place, using apache redirects. It's the altering of
'outgoing' links that puzzles me--I'm not sure I understand why you'd
want to do this. But I may be missing something.
In our published material, we've now displaying on the abstract page
a complete link to that page, calling it a "permanent link". For example:
http://projecteuclid.org/euclid.annm/1185985453
If need to migrate services, that's the link we're promising to preserve.

Hi Henry, We talked about this here and see how it should be done. Essentially, the Importer needs to know to comb through any HTML files looking for referenced images, verify that these are included in the ingest package, pull those images into the repository, and (as the HTML doc is pulled in) alter the HTML image references so that they will be properly identified in the repository when the HTML document is viewed. As I noted below, we do something like this for the abstract in the metadata now, so we're not thinking it should be very difficult to add this. What's your publication schedule like? When do you expect to load a second issue? We're wondering when you need this. Whenever we get it added, you'll be able to reload issues and everything should work as you've got it now, except the images will be in the repository along with everything else. --David At 06:06 PM 9/24/2007, David Ruddy wrote: >Henry, > >I'm sending this on to the tech list. > >Interesting problem. Henry, I'm sending this on to the tech list. Interesting problem. I think I understand what you're trying to do. I suspect the Importer will need to be tweaked a bit to put these images (sort of supplemental images) into the repository in a way that makes them accessible to your html file. We do this now with in-line images encoded in the abstract element (in the metadata). But we've not thought about the similar situation within the content files (in this case an HTML file). We'll talk about it here in the next couple of days and devise a solution. You're on the cutting/bleeding edge, as far as delivering HTML ;-) The record_filename_set was designed for a sequence of files that together make up the entire object. For example, a list of TIFF page image files that together represent the object described in that metadata <record>. Or a set of PDF files that together represent the entire object. In this case, the images are just components and don't themselves, even taken together, comprise the entire object. We've tended to call stuff like this "supplemental" or "auxiliary" datastreams. --David At 03:50 PM 9/24/2007, H Griffy wrote: >Hi All, > >I've been exploring how to display images in html files, and have >not been able to figure out an elegant way to do it.\ > >The situation: in the new issue of the journal Disability Studies >Quarterly, one article contains a few images of charts and >graphs. Hi All, Is there a built-in way to get DPubS to display URLs in a different format from the default? I ask because the journal we are publishing has existed as an online journal for a number of years, so users will expect URLs to follow a certain format. Also, we will need to provide access to earlier content consistent with how it has already been published, so that existing citations will remain valid. It should be possible to accomplish these effects with creative use of htaccess files, but would rather do the setup within DPubS itself. Either way, if anyone on the list has dealt with this problem in the process of migrating other journals between servers, any tips you might offer would be most welcome. Hi Henry:
I'll let the submit publication question below for Cornell, but I
just wanted to make you aware that in the new version of DPubS (which I
think are using) a publication can be defined using the admin
interface. There are some instructions on the wiki on how to use the
admin interface to define and edit the publication data. The admin
tools will create all the files necessary for the publication and the
publication will be ready for data to be loaded once this process is
completed. First you define the publication, then you use the
publication editor to enter the data (see the wiki for what is entered
in these fields) and then you use the Publication Data Queue to load the
publication into the system. There might be some apache restarts
needed. You need to have an admin user defined in DPubS to see the
admin screens - to do this go to /Services/Admin/ and run the
script_AddPrivilege.pl with just one parameter -u followed by the userid
(e.g. ./script_AddPrivilege.pl -ukbb2). This will give that user admin
privileges in the browser. When you bring up the browser and login as
this user - you should get an Admin Tasks in the Navigation area. Click
on that and you should get the full list of admin functions. This is an
easier way to define a publication. Shin-Woo Kim from Cornell is the
creator of the Admin Services functionality.
