=2E..is coming! I know, i know, i said that gFTP and GTransferManager do everything i planned to do. That's true of GTM, but gFTP is, well, sort of lacking. Since GTM provides such an excellent queue, i won't be adding any more features to DPS-FTP's queue. What's there will remain, but i won't be improving on it. So, this means no support for URLs and stuff. See GTM for that. From now on, DPS-FTP will focus on being an *FTP* client, not a transfer manager. Instead, i'll be focusing on providing other essential features: drag-n-drop, previewing, context menus, etc. --=20 Eric Gillespie, Jr. <*> ep...@po... "With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. For example, there are at least a dozen Gnome email clients at the moment. None of these are moving as fast as Evolution, nor can they compete on the feature set. Hopefully, the authors of these programs will move on after Evolution is released. > you say you already use TWO software that those what you > wanted.. why the hell use 2??? Because that's the Unix way. A program should do one thing and do it well. MS VC++ does everything. I use Emacs to code, gcc to compile it, make to orchestrate the process, etc. I use mutt to read mail, fetchmail to receive it, postfix to send it, and Emacs to edit it. It's the Unix way. > and besides... their interfaces are ugly!... (well that's my opinion.) I agree, but that's hardly a reason for so much duplicated effort. > I like the "feel" of cuteftp.. or bulletproof ftp for > windows... im use to them... I once agreed with you, but i don't miss that interface anymore. Since discovering GTransferManager, i haven't looked back. I now use it for all downloads. From Netscape, gFTP, or whatever, you just drag a URL onto the applet and it starts downloading. > it really sucks that you stop developping.. :((( Well, i'm sorry. But you really should look into GTM. It's great. --=20 Eric Gillespie, Jr. <*> ep...@po... "With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. Why? simple... tired of seeing programmer for linux not go through with their apps! lol no seriously... you say you already use TWO software that those what you wanted.. why the hell use 2??? and besides... their interfaces are ugly!... (well that's my opinion.) I like the "feel" of cuteftp.. or bulletproof ftp for windows... im use to them... and yours was really going good... the ONLY other ftp client I found for linux that was what I was looking for (besides yours) is IglooFTP.... but it's a god damn trial version! (do cracks exist for linux?? lolol) of course, even after the trial period.. you can still use it, but it reminds you each time you open it up to register... it's anoying!! it really sucks that you stop developping.. :((( but hey! it's your choice! >From: dps...@li... >Reply-To: dps...@li... >To: dps...@li... >Subject: Dpsftp-misc digest, Vol 1 #4 - 2 msgs >Date: Thu, 18 May 2000 12:08:19 -0700 > > >Send Dpsftp-misc mailing list submissions to > dps...@li... > >To subscribe or unsubscribe via the web, visit > http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/dpsftp-misc >or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > dps...@li... >You can reach the person managing the list at > dps...@li... > >When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than >"Re: Contents of Dpsftp-misc digest..." > > >Today's Topics: > > 1. Hello, If I were a programmer, I'd take over DPS-FTP... but im not! http://sourceforge.net/survey/survey.php?group_id=3D344&survey_id=3D10476 Cast your vote at the above survey. With the existence of gFTP (http://gftp.seul.org) and GTransferManager (http://gtm.sourceforge.net), i just don't see a need for DPS-FTP. I never use it myself, i use the two apps i just mentioned. They already do everything i planned for DPS-FTP. If you disagree with me, cast your vote at the survey or discuss it here. If you think DPS-FTP should go on and you're interested in taking over development, talk to me. --=20 Eric Gillespie, Jr. <*> ep...@po... "With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.
