The Saros team proudly announces the release of version 9.7.10.r1509. Install and update from Eclipse: http://dpp.sf.net/update Release Notes ------------- Jabber account creation was improved to deal with some quirks in popular servers. Adding new buddies in the roster has been completely overhauled and now is much more robust. Many bugs regarding role changes where fixed. The number of character you and your remote peer typed is now collected as a per session statistic. We continue to work on making the initial synchronisation better and faster. Improved communication to the Jabber server by reducing the messages sent per second drastically. Saros supports Eclipse 3.5 and 3.4 now. Known issues: No progress of role change is shown to the host. There is still no reliable server independent way for Saros to find out whether a contact exists on the server. No progress is shown for the invited peer when receiving the archive. Workaround: Check network traffic in the OS. Cancelling the sync might not stop the current file transfer to be interrupted. Workaround: Disconnect from Jabber server. Various race condition in sync. Workaround: Try again :-( Changelog --------- [FIX] Improve Account Creation in case a server does not support In-Band Registration (like jabber.org) [FEATURE] Added a link to a list of public XMPP servers to the account creation wizard [FIX] StopManager works only in the first session [FIX] StopManager doesn't unblock SharedResourcesManager (caused problems concerning file activities) [FEATURE] StopManager is cancellable and doesn't use timeouts any more [API] StopManager can stop more than one user concurrently [FEATURE] Statistic: Added a class that collects local text edit activities and compares them in relation to concurrency with remote text events. [FEATURE] Adding a contact is now run in a cancelable background task [FIX] #2795240 New Contact Page doesn't have a progress dialog [FIX] Eclipse window sometimes didn't respond when creating a new account because the operation was running in the SWT thread as well [FIX] #2808894 New Contact Action fails on Jabber.org [FIX] #2706878: Add Buddy fails silently in server federation If ServiceDisco failed during Adding Contacts then a user was never added. Fixed adding contacts to Gmail.com which used to throw an 503 service unavailable. [FIX] #2800616 Always send sync data as an archive [FIX] #2808850 Prevent delay for IBB if Jingle is disabled [FIX] Outgoing Invitation now uses a Java temp-file instead of a file inside the Eclipse directory. [FIX] Creating Folder fails when parents do not exist [FIX] SarosRosterListener did not handle presence changes correctly. [FIX] #2707190 receiver thread crashed if Saros-Session is closed by remote peer [BUILD] Make Saros build under Eclipse 3.5 [FIX] Error on bare JIDs in Invite Action [FEATURE] There is no server recommendation made anymore when creating an account. The user is supposed to pick one from the list of public XMPP servers that is accessible over the link. |

The Saros Team is proud to announce the release of our third beta version 9.6.23. In the last three weeks Saros has improved most notably with regards to * ...supporting the use of the same Jabber-ID for Saros and a normal instant messaging client. * ...only sharing parts of a project. * ...various problems in the synchronisation and invitation process. * ...the collection of anonymous usage statistics for our research project. * ...the heuristic for staying in follow mode when drivers change. Many thanks to all users of Saros who have participated in our 3 minute user survey at the end of every fifth session! To obtain the new release, head over to our project site at SourceForge https://sourceforge.net/projects/dpp/ or use our Eclipse plugin update site http://dpp.sf.net/update Changelog: [FEATURE] Synchronize Role Change [FEATURE] Partial project sharing dialog: Offers the possibility to select only part of the project to be shared with the client (experimental) [FEATURE] Statistic collection which was introduced in the last version now actually is enabled (if chosen by the user) for the following data: * Role changes of the local user and the times s/he stayed in each role * Number of users in each session, and how long they were present in the same session * General platform infos, feedback settings and session data (session time and ID) * File Transfer statistics such as bandwidth during invitation [FEATURE] Improved follow mode heuristic on driver change for exclusive driver case [FIX] #2808862: Joining a Session can cause wrong driver information [FIX] #2808904: Wrong use of HTTPClient [FIX] #2808839: Outgoing Invitation tries to send directories as files [FIX] #1609227: Can invite peers that don't use Saros. Saros now checks during an invitation whether the remote user supports Saros and shows this information to the user in the invitation dialog. [FIX] #2707197: Renaming contacts needs to be done twice to work [FIX] #2801628: FileList.match() doesn't work properly [FIX] Make sure that an archive is used when IBB is the out-bound data transfer method [FIX] Prevent that consistency recovery triggers resource changes [FIX] More robust handling of a NPE in the invitation dialog observed during testing on 2009-06-18 [FIX] A NPE when the project selection dialog was canceled when joining a session [FIX] Race Condition in Consistency Watchdog: Checksum arriving in between recovery operations could cause the CW-dialog to hang. [FIX] Support for file transfer using IBB of file size 0 (files of length 0 are not supported by OpenFire (raising 405)) [FIX] Sending via archive never switches to last state in invitation progress [FIX] ConnectionSessionManager currently uses wrong state transitions, which caused a assertion error in the RosterTracker. This fix, makes the RosterTracker more robust until the CSM is fixed. [WORKAROUND] #2807689: Editors are opened externally erroneously: Workaround surpresses files which would have been opened externally [WORKAROUND] Prevent Saros from reconnecting infinitely if the connection to the XMPP server is down [API] Introduce ProgressMonitoring API in many places to allow cancellation and progress. [INTERNAL] Saros is now aware internally that one Jabber-ID might have several presences online |

Saros 9.5.29 is the first release after our beta-release 9.5.8 and is packed with bug-fixes. In particular we have improved the consistency recovery and improved support while debugging an application. On the feature side, Saros now has much better dialogs for initial configuration of Jabber accounts and servers, which are shown at first start and offers the possibility to skip the synchronisation (needs to be enabled in the preferences). This release is also the first with which we want to gather some scientific data about distributed pair programming (this is a research project after all). To this end Saros will ask you after every fifth session (configurable, of course) whether you want to participate in a short survey. To obtain the new release, head over to our project site at SourceForge https://sourceforge.net/projects/dpp/ or use our Eclipse plugin update site http://dpp.sf.net/update For a complete Changelog visit: https://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?group_id=167540&release_id=685961 Changes: [FIX] Cannot create files for consistency recovery under MacOS/Linux [FIX] Yes button of FeedbackDialog doesn't have the initial keyboard focus [FIX] Roster view is maximized when Eclipse's welcome screen appears [FIX] #2556663 - [Synchronisation] Should be possible to skip synchronisation: Needs to be enabled in the advanced preferences. [FIX] FileUtil.writeFile makes sure parent directories do exist before writing. [FIX] Do not try to open editors of files which do not exist (catches ugly Window error message) [FIX] #2794436: Logs created in user home: Now they are created in the directory which contains the Eclipse log (usually .metadata in the workspace) [FIX] Can't follow when debugging: Changing the active editor when debugging was not correctly captured by our IPartListener2. [FIX] Remove Viewport Annotations at end of session: Annotations were removed based on an empty editorPool (which was cleared one line before) [FIX] The Auto-Next feature did not check for disabled button to press [FIX] #2794319: NullPointerException trying to share a project [FIX] #2767873: Saros views not visible after plugin installation [FIX] #2596378: Autoclose of invitation dialog [FIX] Auto-Next on second page was broken by "[FIX] Handle a race condition if auto-next is enabled in JoinSessionWizard, but the user clicks faster than 1s." [FIX] #2789375: SharedProjectFileDecorations not updated / removed [FIX] #2789102: InvitationDialog cannot be closed initially [FEEDBACK] Activated our first survey targetting fast user feedback. [FEATURE] Improved GUI of the ConfigurationWizard, added links to the Saros project website in all feedback GUI elements, added contact information to the feedback preference page, added more information about the statistic submission (link to Wiki-Website) [FEATURE] Added a feedback system that asks the user to participate in an online survey. The interval in which the feedback reminder is shown is customizable or can be disabled completely in the Preferences [FEATURE] A wizard to configure Saros settings is shown when the plugin is installed or updated and some user preferences are missing. [FEATURE] Manually connecting from the Roster View is now always possible. If configuration details for Jabber are missing a wizard is shown to enter them right away. [FEATURE] added StatisticManager which can gather information about the session. Currently only data about the number of sessions is gathered and not transmitted at all. [FEATURE] Added a check button in the invitation dialog that lets the user specify whether he wants the dialog to close automatically if all invitations are completed or not. [FEATURE] Performance: Optimize Operations when transforming to TextEdits [FEATURE] Added Action to follow a selected person in the SessionView (FollowThisPersonAction) [FEATURE] Enable TLS for logging into server (but don't require it, because we need UI) [FEATURE] New JIDFileAppender creates log files with the JID of user currently connected |
