Saros highlights the changes of a user in the saros session with his/her color.
Whitespaces are highlighted too even though these very rarely carry any meaning. This makes it harder to determine which code parts the user actually wrote - most of the highlighting is used for whitespaces.
Maybe it makes sense to allow deactivating whitespacce-highlighting (if that is even possible), for "powerusers"
But highlighting changes as a block instead of colored chunks is easier to perceive and less straining for the eyes. And a change is easier to perceive as a sematic block (as a whole).
A lot of colored chunks increase the visual clutter in the editor.
