#711 Session overview too vague
The session part in the Saros view is too vague / irritating because:
- colored square looks clumsy next to the users buddy icon
- when a participant is selected the colored square disappears
- different inconstant follow indicators are used: sometimes the icon gets glasses, sometime a follow annotation
- the presentation is too textual. There is no easy way to separate the user name from additional information. The presentation is difficult to grasp.
I really appreciate your feedback. Can you please tell me:
Did you actually have any problems while working collaboratively on a project or did you just take a look at the saros view and the changes, without trying anything productive?
I agree it could look even better, but I could not confirm that there are actual usability problems in multiple evaluations of the current looks.
Users did not experience any difficulties in
a) understanding the "following julia_fu"
b) understanding what the path to the currently opened file means
c) they also easily found out which colors the users had, as they only took a look at that at the beginning of the session where no user is selected in the treeview.
d) when they noticed that the colorsquare is not visible (implementation on MAC for selection background coloring is different than on Windows computers!) they clicked on another user or on the "session" item, to see the square again (but this mostly didn't make any sense as they were just playing around at that moment, not being productive, at the beginning of the session). They were done with that after about 5 seconds.
e) they mostly checked users colors (in sessions of 2) by selecting text or editing, so this is more of a minor helper function, than a showstopper.

(following) behind the user name is the indication that you are following that user. that has been that way since ages, i didn't observe issues with that.
If a user is following someone else, the item gets a new child which indiciates who is being followed with the followmode icon.
It would probably be more consistent to add the "following XY" to the "you" item too. Maybe even remove the "(following)" text annotation behind the user. But i would expect that to be too subtle.
I also think that "following julia_fu" is blue is a bug, i changed that already, but it probably got lost during the merging/patching.
Another comment: if the chat is working, the users see yet another indication of the the highlighting colors in the chat, because the chat headers where the usernames are mentioned are colored.
