Portbase and Portview are simply front ends to the underlying port
command, so if there's a problem with installation, it's likely there.

Try running "sudo port clean foo" from the command line and then running
"sudo port install foo" to see what output you get from that. (The
terminal returns more useful errors than the GUI does--this is a
built-in limitation that I'm studying how to fix.)


The "active" designation is provided by some apps and not others. I
don't think it's a big deal. Are you unable to launch an app that is not
listed as "active"?
