Folks, I now have my Postbase and PortView apps working, but I keep running into an apparent stall at the package's activation. I'll download a package and it will go normally through verifying, extracting, configuring, building, installing, etc., but then apparently hang at "activating." Am I doing something wrong? If so, what? I also notice that several of the packages I do successfully download and install, even when they show up as listed, are not shown as "active" in my window. What does that mean? Thanks for any help. I've worked with Linux for a couple years, but this is my first experience with Darwin and I'm lost. Fran |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Portbase and Portview are simply front ends to the underlying port command, so if there's a problem with installation, it's likely there. Try running "sudo port clean foo" from the command line and then running "sudo port install foo" to see what output you get from that. (The terminal returns more useful errors than the GUI does--this is a built-in limitation that I'm studying how to fix.) The "active" designation is provided by some apps and not others. I don't think it's a big deal. Are you unable to launch an app that is not listed as "active"? You can also direct general DP questions to the DarwinPorts mailing list at http://darwinports.opendarwin.org. I'm using the bash shell. From the CLI, when i type in "sudo port clean foo," I get "port: command not found."
