[Doxygen-users] Doxygen tag file handling for xml

i splitted my libraries and programs into several folders and was able to generate doxygen documentation for each folder and link them together using the "External documentation" / Tagfile feature of doxygen.
This was great!

Now i want to do something similar, but with the xml output:

What i want to achieve:

i want to use the sphinx / breathe / doxygen toolchain for documentation generation.

Is the tag file handling in doxygen considered for something else like html? or can it be used for xml also?
