Just installed DoubleCommand. What I want out of it is to have a "Delete" button on the left side of my MacBook Pro keyboard. I selected the option "Caps Lock key acts as Delete key." And it works…sorta. Because what actually happens is that is only works as a Delete key every other press - it alternates between working as a Delete key when the green "Caps Lock" button-light is illuminated, but when it is NOT illuminated, the key doesn't work as a Delete key. So it goes back and forth with each time you press it. Very frustrating!
However, it says in the Preference Pane, "(*) See tooltips" about this option. What does that mean? What tooltips, and where are they? Do the "tooltips" explain how to make the Caps Lock key function as a Delete key every time, or do they merely inform me that it will work as a Delete key only every other time?
Tooltips or no tooltips: What do I do to make the Caps Lock key function as Delete EVERY time I press it? Alternately, is there a way with DoubleCommand to make some other key-combination on the left side of the keyboard function as "Delete"? I prefer "Command-1," but I'm open to other options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully the answer will be as simple as a single click in some box somewhere!

FIXED - I found a working alternative to DoubleCommand. It's called KeyRemap4MacBook.
The caps lock key works as a backspace for every key press now. (Note, holding it down doesn't continue deleting a string of characters. It's limited to one key press per character just like how DoubleCommand was supposed to work.)

Hi, glad you found a solution and thanks for posting that. I'm sorry DoubleCommand didn't work for you, I guess newer keyboards have changed the way the Caps Lock key works, so DoubleCommand doesn't do what it should for your keyboard.

I have the same problem. It's the reason that I downloaded the software, but it's useless the way it currently works.
I'm having the same problem on my MacBook. However, the caps lock as a delete key works as it should with every key press on my iMac. Frustrating.

FWIW, I seem to have both KeyRemap4MacBook and PCKeyboardHack installed. It appears to be the latter that maps Caps Lock to Escape.
I would also like to know where to find the tooltips please? I downloaded DoubleCommand to use the forward delete functions also. Thanks.
