Hi! I've downloaded 1.30 and tried to start it on Linux. Got error: Main WAD file not found. What can i do with it?

You need an IWAD from original Doom. You can either use Doom, Doom II, Final Doom, or Doom shareware. just copy the wad file from of those (doom.wad, doom2.wad, tnt.wad, plutonia.wad or doom1.wad) into the DooM Legacy directory. If you don't own an original copy of Doom, you can download the shareware version from id software web site.

      Hope it will help you,

      Thierry

What "Doom Legacy" dirctory? I have this same problem and the directory I have is
      /usr/local/games/legacy-1.30/
I put the DOOM2.WAD file in there and get the same thing. Where should I put the wad file?

I have had a terrible time loading WADS using the command line switches.

Legacy uses the config file to find the file.  The command line switch
      can specify Doom2, Heretic, etc..

A WAD specified on the command line will be loaded after the
WAD specified in the config file for the mode (Doom1, Doom2, Heretic)

I just end up copying the entire Legacy directory, removing all old
wad files (or else they will get loaded too), and replacing the wad
      with the new wad file.

The alternative is to edit the config file and change the wad file
name to where it actually is.

The only WAD  I have succeeded with are
        doom1-demo,
        doom2-freedom,
heretic-demo    -- after many bug fixes in Legacy (see my patches)
        samples/rainbow -- will crash often
        samples/...
      Failures
        chexquest,  hexen,  darkrealms

Sorry, the bit about "The alternative is to edit the config file and change the wad file name to where it actually is."  applies to the yadex editor,
which also has command line wad loading problems.

I have not figured out rules
for what Legacy does.  If I do not clear out all other wad files it will load one of them instead.   Some wads are not stand-alone, and they require some other wad to be loaded (which they rarely tell you).
